Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Crown Prince Haakon agreed to buy this holiday home known as a
hytte last month. The hytte is located near Risør on its own island off Norway's popular southern coast known as
Sørlandet.
The royal couple paid a royal price of NOK 9 million (USD 1.8 million) for the relatively modest, 60-square-meter hytte. It was clearly a case of "location, location, location" that commanded the princely price tag. Here's a view of the hytte's living room.

The hytte has a modest standard, but sports large windows that offer panoramic views out to sea.

Here's the hytte's fireplace, nice to have in Norway, even during the summer. Doors into the bedrooms can be seen on either side of it.

The hytte has three small bedrooms, including this one.

The kitchen is also fairly small, for a family of five.

And here's the bathroom, which features a shower in the corner. Running water and electricity at a hytte are often considered luxuries themselves.

Here's the family last month on Constitution Day, the 17th of May. From left, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, her son Marius Borg Høiby and Princess Ingrid Alexandra in the arms of her father Crown Prince Haakon. Prince Sverre Magnus is standing in front of his mother, a military escort behind.
