A 31-year-old BASE jumper was badly injured over the weekend when a legal jump he made off a high-rise Oslo hotel went wrong. Here, he tries to mentally prepare himself before climbing out a 34th-floor window of Oslo's Radisson SAS Plaza Hotel on Saturday.
At first, everything seemed to go well and the jump was completely legal. Hotel officials decided to allow base jumping once a year in an effort to ward off the illegal jumping that's taken place earlier.
But suddenly, one of the jumper's lines snagged on a light pole, and he lost control. He was left hanging for a few seconds, before crashing onto the concrete below.
Ambulance personnel were standing by, and rushed to the jumper's aid. The base jumping event, arranged in cooperation with local club Oslo BASE, was immediately halted.
The injured jumper was immediately taken to Ullevål University Hospital, where he remained in serious but stable condition on Monday. He underwent surgery Sunday night and was placed in intensive care for fractures, head and chest injuries.Norge har den tregeste trafikken mellom storbyene i hele Europa. Les saken
