The Norwegian NCUBE-2 satellite, launched as part of the international SSETI Express research project, has yet to make contact, the Newspapers' News Bureau (ANB) reports.

Researchers at Narvik University College are listening for the NCUBE's signal each time it passes over Narvik and Svalbard, but they still have no idea what is behind the silence.

According to their web site, ground control in Aalborg, Denmark has not had contact with the either of the other student satellites, one built in Japan, the other in Germany, launched in tandem with Norway's NCUBE.

One theory is that a fault in the electrical system may be preventing the batteries from loading, which means the satellite would be turned off.

"We are investigating various scenarios. What we learn here we will take forward with us when we shoot up the NCUBE twin, NCUBE-1, in January," the researchers wrote.
