When the hunter reached the male moose felled with a perfect shot, the partners in his group spotted another trail of blood, newspaper Nordlys reports. They followed this to a dead female.
"I must say that I was appalled when I saw the cow," the hunter, who wished to remain anonymous, told the newspaper.
The shot appeared to have hit the first animal in the heart as planned, and managed to make two remarkable entries and one exit between the ribs of both moose.
The shooting of the second animal put the team over their quota, and the animal was confiscated and the incident reported to the police.
Hunters must train to avoid such situations, but the man said the moose were standing in a thicket such that he could not spot and count the legs. The local county wildlife administrator said that 'two for one' incidents were very rare, and found only one such episode from 11 years ago.
