Journalist Arvid Berentsen received a phone call Tuesday while covering the Norwegian Cash Service (NOKAS) robbery trial in Stavanger municipal court.
Berentsen said the caller was extremely upset and angry about an article about an enforcer that police were trying to keep secret from defense lawyers for the robbery suspects.
"The person who called asked me who gave me permission to use his name. To this I answered that I didn't need permission and that his name had been used by various media in the same case before," Berentsen told Stavanger Aftenblad.
Berentsen claimed the man became even angrier and issued what he felt to be an illegal threat: "You better watch out, it would take me exactly two seconds to come to Stavanger and sort things out."
Berentsen said he felt this was meant to cause serious fear for his health or life and so he reported it to police.
Stavanger Aftenblad editor Tom Hetland told his newspaper that security precautions for the reporter were being considered.
