The country's wolf population teetered on the brink of extinction but was making a comeback until ranchers and others opposed to the predators went on the attack.

The wolf population started to dwindle again, even though national politicians claim they're committed to protecting the species.

Wildlife experts now say they've tracked two packs after tracking efforts in the townships of Elverum, Åmot, Løten, Våler, Åsnes and the western portions of Trysil.

Jan Erik Olbergsveen of Elverum Township told newspaper Nationen that there are at least 12 animals in each pack.

Another two wolves have been tracked in southern Trysil.
