The 47-year-old man from Drammen was found dead around 10am on Saturday, at the bottom of a steep slope at the Norefjell ski resort, about two hours northwest of Oslo. There were no witnesses to the accident, and the resort had just opened for the day's skiing.

Police later learned that the man had actually skied down the slope in the middle of the night, after leaving the Mountain Lodge bar at the top of the run around 1am. He and a friend set off down the mountain in the dark and became separated.

The friend made it back to their lodgings and went to bed. The 47-year-old never turned up and was later found dead, still wearing his skis. There was no immediate word on the cause of death.

A 54-year-old woman from Gothenburg, Sweden, meanwhile, was skiing with her grown son at the popular Hemsedal ski resort when she inadvertently skied into a steep slope that apparently was beyond her ability.

She reportedly took her skis off to get down the mountain, but then slid off a cliff and fell about 100 meters. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both of the deaths are under investigation.

Police also were investigating another fatality at the Overhalla ski center in Nord-Trøndelag, but it didn't involve skiing. A 17-year-old boy was found dead Sunday after partying at a cabin in the area. He apparently left the cabin during the night and was thinly clad when found after a night of sub-freezing temperatures.
