An explosion at a transforming station around 7am cut power to at least one-third of the city, confirmed Bjørn Hølaas of Trondheim Energiverk.
Areas hit included Øya, Tyholt, Moholt and Lade.
It took utility workers around an hour to restore power to the areas. No one was injured in the explosion.
