Oslo and Stockholm have been without a daily train connection since early last year, when quarrels over funding suspended service of the so-called "Linx" train between the cities.
Now a new agreement has been hammered out between the Norwegian transportation ministry, Hedmark county and Norwegian railway NSB on the Norwegian side, and Riskstrafiken, Värmlandstrafik, Länstrafiken in Örebro and Swedish railway SJ on the Swedish side.
Starting January 7, there will be four departures each way, with two of them offering direct service between Oslo and Stockholm. The other two departures will require a change of train in Karlstad, which is about halfway between the two capitals.
One direct route between Oslo and Stockholm will run on the weekends.
The service is being set up with public funding of SEK 18 million, of which Norway will contribute about 40 percent.
