Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet printed two interviews by Bjørn Benkow with Schumacher, in January and July of this year, but Schumacher's press spokeswoman Sabine Kehm said that they cannot be genuine.

"Michael says to me that he never gave an interview from any of his homes and that he can not remember that this Norwegian journalist has spoken with him in connection with his birthday in January," Kehm told newspaper Dagens Næringsliv, the financial daily that broke the story of the Gates accusation.

"All interviews with Michael go through me, and he only speaks with the press at press conferences or on a few agreed occasions," Kehm said.

Dagbladet's news editor Peter Raaum said that he will now be looking into the matter.

"I will contact those who edited the story and who have decided it should be printed. Then I will make sure that we have proper routines for this, and I of course will ensure that Benkow never writes for Dagbladet again," Raaum said.

Benkow has yet to respond to enquiries from the press.
