This step is being taken to rid the royal trappings of moths. The first objects to get the deep freeze will be carpets, curtains and chairs with textile coverings, NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting) reports.
"We need to reach a temperature of -25C (-13F) at the core of the furniture. Five days in the freezer room is necessary to achieve this," Oddvar Johnsen from The Directorate of Public Construction and Property in central Norway told NRK.
This procedure will also apply to all furniture and fixtures that are lent to Stiftsgården in the future. The freezer treatment is considered a quick and effective method of putting an end to this type of problem.
