Meteorologist Aage Aasen told NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting) that the wind will come from the northwest and hit the coast and western counties.
"Rogaland (County), particularly in the north, and parts of Hordaland (County), will feel the brunt of the storm," Aasen said. "The storm is relatively long lasting and it will endure most of Friday."
BP, which has operations in the Valhall field in the North Sea, was sending oil workers ashore from its platform there for safety reasons.
"We did this most recently in February," BP press spokesman Jan Erik Geirmo told newspaper Stavanger Aftenbladet's web site.
"The 30-40 people who remain will stay on the water injection platform. Those who stay behind will be safe," Geirmo said.
On Tuesday afternoon BP and Conoco Philips were discussing evacuating all non-essential personnel from their platforms in the Ekofisk and Valhall fields, which would affect a total of 1,500 employees.
