It's probably no coincidence that her parents, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit, opted to start an official visit to Chile on Wednesday. They likely wanted to be home to spend the 21st of January with their only daughter.

Palace officials are trying hard to control information about the royal family in Norway, and it was the palace who released the latest batch of "official" photos of Princess Ingrid Alexandra. The Norwegian media mostly seems to go along with the restrictions placed on coverage of the royal youngsters, who in theory are supposed to have as "normal" a childhood as possible.

The little princess goes to a local kindergarten during the day and has lots of room to play at the crown couple's sprawling royal estate called Skaugum in Asker, west of Oslo.

On Monday, she and her family were expecting birthday party guests at the estate. Her parents were due to fly to Chile on Tuesday, for an official three-day visit.
