Catalog company Findexa demands that when a person dies their name be stricken from the phone book, newspaper VG reports. Many older women feel this robs them of desired security.

"I don't want to be listed as a single woman. That would make me feel exposed to break-ins and theft," 82-year-old Odny Fotland told VG. Her protests have gone unheard.

Findexa, formerly Telenor Media, has informed Fotland that she will be listed with a neutral initial for her first name, but she is not satisfied.

Meanwhile, the online catalog abounds with frivolous quirks. Three Donald Ducks are listed, one from Ducktown, another lives on Donald Street. Sogndal is home to Johann Supermann, and there are also three James Bonds.

"These aren't supposed to be in the printed catalog," said Findexa information chief Gro Ismar, who also will be watching out for characters like Grad Stalin from Hammerfest and Golf Phantom from Ulnes.

Ismar said that Findexa does not actively look for dead names in the catalog, though Fotland claims no one in her family notified the company.

"One has to give notice for a name to be deleted. But we want to get the number of deceased down to a minimum," Ismar said.
