The driver managed to avoid the tree, but one of the branches knocked in a mirror and smashed the window just behind the rear door. One passenger, a veterinarian, was hurt.
"I was sitting and sleeping and didn't notice a thing before the impact. I was sitting with my head towards the window for a while but luckily I turned away when I fell asleep," veterinarian Jan Peter Valde told the newspaper.
Valde was taken to Hamar Hospital with severe cuts and bruises, and broken glass in his wounds.
The accident was caused by a beaver gnawing a tree by the highway, a few kilometers from the Vikingskipet, an Olympic sporting hall and Hamar landmark.
According to the newspaper the driver did well to avoid the falling tree but the speed of both objects caused damage to the bus and injuries to one passenger.
