A study by the health service at the University of Oslo (UiO) concluded that 32 percent of males and 21 percent of females surveyed drank enough to be categorized as 'risk drinkers', student newspaper Universitas reports.
The study also found that 21 percent of students drink two or more times a week. Nevertheless Associate Professor Henrik Natvig at UiO, an expert on youth and intoxicant use, said he was not very concerned about the figures.
"If this level of drinking only occurs for a three to five year period and then one enters a calmer phase after studies, then I don't think this is especially worrying. But if it continues after student days, when they have families and jobs, this would be bad," Natvig told Aftenposten.
Natvig was not willing to criticize students.
"I think there are many positive things associated with student alcohol use. The social network, for example, is extra important in the student period," Natvig said.
