Riise, who is a fixture on Champions League winner Liverpool in England's Premier League, refused to comment after newspaper VG unfurled the details of the 24-year-old's telephone seduction technique.

VG revealed the names of at least ten celebrity women - singers, models and media personalities - who received the same flattering, if poorly written, message inviting them to a romantic dinner for two.

"We do not wish to comment on this matter. Not at all," Riise's agent Einar Baardsen told Aftenposten.no, who admitted that his client was aware of the article's content.

Norwegian Cosmopolitan editor Pia Haraldsen told VG that she thought Riise's SMS campaign was "terribly disrespectful to the other girls", and added that Riise had told here he wanted them to be Norway's Posh and Beckham.

Riise's mother, football agent Berit Riise, told VG the whole story "smelled of rejected women" and said she thought that the message was charming and a private matter.

TV star Synnøve Svabø told Dagbladet.no that she was not aware that her message from Riise was not unique.

"But I am very satisfied with being age 36 and being in this club. After all, I'm the oldest, the one with the smallest bust and highest education," she told Dagbladet.
