While the Spanish club was running intensive defensive drills their star back Ivan Helguera grabbed his thigh and hobbled over to the team physiotherapist in pain. Real Madrid said that Helguera would not start against the Norwegians.
Real won the first match in Spain 4-1, but only after a shaky start that saw Rosenborg go to halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Rosenborg has beaten Real Madrid in Trondheim before, and the Spanish sports press has also noted that the two times these teams have been paired in the preliminary group before, Real went on to win the tournament.
"The match here in Trondheim will probably be different than the one in Madrid. Rosenborg are even stronger at home, and they will bank even more on set play," said Real coach Vanderlei Luxemburgo.
Real has been thinned by injuries, with Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Julio Baptista and Thomas Gravesen out. England captain David Beckham, who was the mastermind behind the second half dismantling of Rosenborg in Madrid, is likely to return to action on Tuesday.
