The ugly incident ended with Carew and then national coach Nils Johan Semb not on speaking terms and one of Norway's top strikers off the team.
With a new and so far successful coach at the helm - Age Hareide - pains are being taken to clear the air and bring Carew back into the fold.
"I'm looking forward to seeing John again. I sent him a message and congratulated him with being picked for the team," Riise told newspaper VG.
Hareide plans a team meeting so that players can ask any unanswered questions, and he has the wholehearted support of both of the former combatants.
Riise says that he and Carew patched things up just after their fight.
"I did something stupid and have worked since to make it up, and I hope people can forgive and forget what happened," Riise said.
Riise seemed to provoke Carew during the fateful training, arguing and even spitting at him. Later, as they boarded the team bus Carew charged Riise and reportedly knocked him unconscious.
