Rosenborg has been looking for a new head coach since it fired Ola By Rise last month. By Rise, just a year in the spot, had replaced Åge Hareide, who took over after Eggen but then quit to become coach for Norway's national squad.

It's been no secret that Rosenborg tried to attract some top talent, most recently Brugge coach Trond Sollied. That failed, and pressure grew to find a new solution.

An official announcement finally came Tuesday afternoon, after word of Eggen's and Hansen's appointments was accidentally leaked over the club's own web site late Monday. The site published a piece that Per Joar Hansen would take over the main responsibility as coach, while Eggen would join a new coaching team.

The piece was quickly withdrawn from the site, and Rosenborg director Nils Skutle called it all a "blunder," claiming that not all details were nailed down.

Eggen denied a report on TV2 that he'd take over as manager, telling Trondheim newspaper Adresseavisen that "Rosenborg already has a manger, and that's Rune Bratseth."
